Death of an Old Settler.
Rachel Craig, relict of W.P. Craig, died at the home of her son-in-law, Henry Saar, near Coyville, May 11th, 1887, after two years of sickness and almost constant suffering. She was born in Tennessee, October 16th, 1810. At the age of seventeen she was married to W.P. Craig, and the day after their union they started to Illinois, where they lived until 1859. In that year Mr. and Mrs. Craig moved to Kansas Territory and settled on the Verdigris river, two miles below Coyville, and this spot was their earthly home the remainder of their days, though Mrs. Craig has, at intervals, gone elsewhere to visit her children. She was the mother of thirteen children, six of whom are living, and forty-seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. The deceased had been a consistent member of the M.E. church for more than fifty years and will never be dead to her children, with whom her Christian influence will ever abide. The services at her funeral were conducted by Rev. W.B. Barton, in the Coyville M.E. church.
