~~*~~John was the first of 10 children born to Scottish born Charles Ross and his beautiful wife Isabella who was of French Metis/Ojibway heritage.
**John was born at the Red River Settlement at Manitoba, Canada. His father Charles was a chief factor/trader for the Hudson's Bay Company and John worked closely alongside his father as a middleman. When John was 21 his father suddenly died. Leaving John to help his "expecting" mother Isabella and his younger siblings.They moved together to Ft Nisqually and John chose to farm on shares with the company. He farmed from 1846 until 1851 when he moved to Victoria B.C. near his mother who had purchased a farm there.

He entered the service of the Hudson's Bay Co in 1840 as a Middleman at Ft Mcloughlin, then at Ft Victoria. From 1845-48 he is listed as a Trader for Ft Victoria.


~~~John married Genevieve Elinor Plomondon the daughter of Emile Marie Findley and Simon Plomondon of Cowlitz Farms on 14th day of June 1851.To this union were born:
~Charles Simon Ross who was baptised on 19 Feb 1854;
~Jean Baptiste Ross who was baptised on 29 Aug 1855 (he died as an infant);
~Pierre Ross baptised on 31 May 1857;
~Marie Emile Ross baptised on 10 Apr 1859;
~ Francois Ross born on 4 Feb 1861 and baptised on the 11th and
~ Alexandre Julien Ross born on 12 May 1862 and baptised on the 22nd.
**All of his children were baptised into the Roman Catholic Faith at St Andrews Cathedral in Victoria.

~~*~~John, like his father also died early, he was only 40 he was living at the Oakland Estates in Victoria B.C. Canada at the time of his death. He was buried near his father Charles and his infant son Jean Baptiste who were resting in the old burying ground at Victoria.
