LaVerne R. "Bud" Howe, 82, of Plano passed away Friday, December 9, 2005 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. He was born October 3, 1923 in LaSalle County, Illinois, the son of Nillion and Annie (Mahle) Howe.
He was an Army Air Corp and Air Force veteran serving in the 732 Bomber Squadron where he completed 30 missions and bombed Normandy on D-Day, Bud received three Bronze Stars, an air medal and was a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, he also trained with Jimmy Doolittle on bombing training in Nevada. He was employed at Cargill Seed Company in Aurora for over 20 years and with Plano Wal-Mart for over 10 years.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 2 PM at The Turner Funeral Home, 3952 Turner Ave., Plano, IL, 630-552-3022 (1/4 mile West of Eldamain Road) with Mary Suomala officiating. Burial will follow at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano. Visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Shriners Children's Hospital.
Bud was survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orrin Howe; and three sisters, Francis Fishburn, Doris Piercy and Lois Coffman.
