Mr. Frederick co-owned and operated George and Jack's Amoco in Evanston for 30 years before selling the business in the 1970s.
He received several citations from Amoco Corp. for excellent service to the public, said his wife, Lee.
Mr. Frederick was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal as a bombardier-navigator during World War II.
He was a longtime Evanston resident who had moved recently to Wheeling. He had been a CB radio operator in a tornado alert program for several years.
Other survivors include four sons, Dennis, Robert, Jeffrey and George; four daughters, Nancy Davidoff, Susan Young, Beth Barber and Mary Mounts; a sister, June Mack, and 12 grandchildren.
