He married Mary Rachel Holley. He was residing in Palestine at the time of his death there.
He was survived by his wife; one son, David Lee Hinson Jr.; one daughter, Gaye Laurie Hinson Karriker of Tennessee Colony; one sister, Bernie Walker of Salida, CO; and four grandchildren.
