David was born in Palestine, TX to John Lee "Lee" and Grace Shaver Hinson.
His father is buried in Ferguson Cemetery. His brother, John Franklin Hinson Sr., is buried in Roselawn Park.
He was awarded 21 merit awards, including a Presidential Citation, Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart, for his service in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1945
He married Mary Rachel Holley. He was residing in Palestine at the time of his death there.
He was survived by his wife; one son, David Lee Hinson Jr.; one daughter, Gaye Laurie Hinson Karriker of Tennessee Colony; one sister, Bernie Walker of Salida, CO; and four grandchildren.
His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Thursday, 7 June 1999.
