Services for Theodore Katz , 77, of 101 Salt Springs Road, who died Tuesday at his home, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in Beth El Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1909 E. Fayette St.

Mr. Katz was a life resident of Syracuse . He retired as a commercial artist and art director with the advertising agency Conklin, Labbs & Bebe.

In addition to his commercial work, Mr. Katz also painted several historical murals that appeared in local banks and in the Hotel Syracuse . One of his paintings, a watercolor called ''Volunteers,'' was bought in the 1940s by the Office of Emergency Management and had hung in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Mr. Katz was a graduate of Syracuse University.

Mr. Katz also was a pianist and performed in local jazz groups. He was an Army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Richard A. of Huntington Valley, Pa.; a brother, Dr. Arthur of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
