Composer, Pianist. Morawetz is widely considered one of the Canadian leading composers. Born in Svetla, Czechoslovakia, Morawetz left his country when the Nazis came to power. In the mid-40's, he settled in Canada, where he live the rest of his life. In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Morawetz composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber works were performed around the world by such renowned artists as Zubin Mehta, Glenn Gould and Yo-Yo Ma, receiving numerous awards. Among his most highly regarded works are "Piano Concerto and Sinfonietta for Winds and Percussion," "Memorial to Martin Luther King," "From the Diary of Anne Frank," "String Quartet No. 1" and "Sonata Tragica."
