Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 15, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 23, 1861. He served through his regiment's battles and campaigns in 1862, and was wounded while on pickett on December 2, 1862. His wounds caused him to have a lengthy at the Fort McHenry Post Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was discharged on June 20, 1863.
