Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company K, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 29, 1861. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on August 18, 1862, and was transferred to Company I. On January 7, 1864 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Lieutenant Edward E. Jemison in battle. He was honorably mustered out on September 26, 1864 at the expiration of his term of enlistment.
