Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Corporal, Company M, 3rd New York Volunteer Cavalry on December 3, 1861. He then transferred as a Private to Company L, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry, April 3, 1862, and transferred again to Company K, on February 22, 1863. He was promoted Sergeant on April 1, 1863, Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company D on August 12, 1863, transferred to Company L on February 28, 1864, promoted 1st Lieutenant, of Company H, March 29, 1864, and finally promoted Captain, Company A, on November 1, 1864. He was honorably mustered out on July 24, 1865.

He served in the post war United States Army, being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 16th United States Infantry on May 11, 1866. He was transferred to 25th United States Infantry on September 21, 1866, promoted to 1st Lieutenant on June 22, 1868, went unassigned on April 26, 1869, was assigned to the 8th United States Infantry on October 14, 1869, and resigned his commission on March 28, 1878.

After his military service be became a Jersey City Police officer, rising to Lieutenant.

He filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran pension on June 11, 1878 (Application #256573, Certificate #156942).

On November 19, 1913 his wife, Elizabeth J. Craig, filed for a US Army Widow’s Pension (Application #1017588, Certificate #774443, NJ).
