Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the cavalyr unit "Halsted's Horse" (which eventually became the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry) on Auguts 20, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 23, 1861. He served continually with the regiment for three full years, finally being honorably mustered out on the expiration of his enlistment on September 16, 1864.
