Mrs. Usher was born in Potsdam NY, daughter of the late Luke Usher and Hannah Small Usher, and always lived in Potsdam until her marriage to Admiral Usher. Despite having the same last name as her husband, they were not related.
Mrs. Usher's long residence in the Commandant's house at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and her activities in charities and good works during the war made her widely known and loved by all those in the naval service and in New York and Brooklyn with whom she was brought in contact.
She died May 24, 1924 in St. Luke's Hospital in New York City after a long illness. Interment was made in the National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
