Mrs. Usher's long residence in the Commandant's house at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and her activities in charities and good works during the war made her widely known and loved by all those in the naval service and in New York and Brooklyn with whom she was brought in contact.
She died May 24, 1924 in St. Luke's Hospital in New York City after a long illness. Interment was made in the National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
