ROBERT L. O'BRIEN RETIRED MARINE OFFICER Watertown Daily Times (NY) - Sunday, February 4, 2001 Robert L. O'Brien, 66, Palm Harbor, Fla., a native of the town of DeKalb, died Tuesday at Integrated Health Service, Pinellas Park, Fla.
Mr. O'Brien enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1956 and served for 20 years before retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1976. During his career, he served throughout the world, including two tours in Vietnam and at bases in Quantico and Norfolk, Va., and Washington, D.C.
Born July 28, 1934, in the town of DeKalb, he was a son of James Everett and Mildred Kirby O'Brien.
Surviving besides his mother of Melbourne, Fla., are four sons, Michael A., Dallas, Texas, Robert E. and Daniel L., both of Williamsburg, Va., and James T., Newport News, Va.; three daughters, Mary C. Yount, Virginia Beach, Va., Linda O. West, Newport News, and Therese O'Brien, Blue Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Carolyn O. Wood, West Melbourne, Fla., and Carmetta Bouchard, Crownsville, Md.; his former wife of 36 years, Rita E. O' Brien, Hampton, Va., and 20 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 15 at the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Va. Burial with military honors will be in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery .
Arrangements are with Arlington Funeral Home.
