Civil War Union Army Officer. he was mustered in as a Corporal in Company C, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 21, 1862.

He was transferred to the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on January 20, 1863, and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Company H. He then served with the unit until he was killed in action on May 12, 1864 at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.
