Mary was born in Kenosha, WI, the daughter of Rev. Julius Hoffmann and Louisa Sophia Kammerich. She married Johanness Georg Bleibtreu in 1891 and divorced him in 1911. She was the mother of George, Daniel and Walter True (changed from Bleibtreu). She was stepmother to Georg's older children, Samuel Paul, John Edward and Johannah Evelyn "Hannah" Bleibtreu or True, all of whom she loved very much.
