Farmer of Clark Vicinity Killed As Autos Collide
Wife, Two Others Hurt in Accident in Wayne County
Marcus Uhl, 68, of the Clark vicinity, died instantly in a head-on collision Friday at 3:55 p.m. near Shreve in Wayne county.
Mrs. Uhl, who was riding with her husband, is in critical condition at Wooster Community hospital, suffering with internal injuries and a possible fracture of the back.
Robert E. Musselman, 18, Fredericksburg Route 1, driver of the other car in the accident, is a patient in the Wooster hospital, receiving treatment for fractures of both jaws, cuts and bruises. A passenger in his car, Don Uhl, 20, Fredericksburg, received treatment for numerous cuts and bruises.
The state highway patrol reported the accident occurred 3.1 miles south of Shreve. Uhl was traveling east and Musselman west when the cars met head-on on a knoll. The highway was wet and a patrol officer said Uhl apparently was driving to the left of the centerline and Musselman was traveling at an excessive rate of speed.
Both of the automobiles, Uhl's 1953 Plymouth and the 1955 Ford driven by Musselman, were demolished.
Mr. Uhl was born Feb. 4, 1888 in Mechanic township, Holmes county, a son of George W. and Anna Fox Uhl. His wife is the former Alma Badger.
A farmer, Mr. Uhl was a member of the Clark Presbyterian church and the Clark grange and a trustee of Mechanic township.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Harold Uhl, Millersburg Route 3; one daughter, Mrs. John Baker, Coshocton; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Hoops, Shreve; two brothers, Albert Uhl, Millersburg Route 3, and Lloyd Uhl, Akron, and three granddaughters. Two sisters and four brothers are deceased.
