Velma F. Uhl, 85, of Millersburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Majora Lane Care Center, Millersburg, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Millersburg, with Father Ronald J. Aubry as celebrant. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, where military rites will be conducted by Millersburg American Legion Post 192.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Holmes County Training Center, 8001 Township Road 574, Holmesville 44633.

She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Wooster, the daughter of Andrew and Lillian (Martin) Grassman, and married R. Robert Uhl on April 12, 1947. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1982.

Velma was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church of Millersburg. She was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was a life member of Millersburg American Legion Post 192.

She enjoyed working in her garden and was an avid bowler and sports fan. Velma was instrumental in developing what is now the Holmes County Training Center, and was a board member there for many years.

Surviving are children, Cheryl Uhl of Sacramento, Calif., Susan and Ricky Lloyd of Baltimore, Ohio, Karen and Fred Johnson of Columbus, Mark and Terri of Killbuck, Dave Uhl of Killbuck, John Uhl of Glenmont, and Mary Uhl (Jerry Schonauer) of Killbuck; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Andy Grassman of Loudonville and Joe Grassman of Wooster; and sisters, Mabel Grassman and Lucille Gaumer, both of Wooster.

She was preceded in death by a son, Greg Uhl; a brother, Herman; and sisters, Marie, Marcella, Edna, Glenna, Georgia and Louise.
