CLARK -- Carl A. Brenly, 88, of Clark, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2008, at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, following a recent surgery.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Eldon Trubee officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, where military rites will be conducted by Millersburg American Legion and Killbuck Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 5, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home or one hour prior to the services.

The family suggests contributions be made to Clark Community Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Carl was born May 23, 1920, in Chili, Coshocton County, the son of Jacob and Edith (Lorenz) Brenly and married Ruth Ann Steele on Oct. 26, 1947. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

He was a 1937 graduate of Clark High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from Jan. 8, 1942-Oct. 4, 1945, in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

He drove school bus and was a janitor from 1954-69 for Clark School and from 1969 until retiring in 1983, had worked as a maintenance man for the West Holmes School District.

He was a member of Clark Community Presbyterian Church and Millersburg American Legion.

Carl truly loved his family and enjoyed working with wood.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Patricia Ann (David) Kalis of Rochester, Mich.; and grandchildren, Meghen (Ronnie) Merrill of Tampa, Fla., and Shaun Kalis of Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
