Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Danville, Indiana, he was an outfielder known for his offensive production and was the only 19th Century player to drive in 150 or more runs twice. On July 2, 1885, he made his debut with the Detroit Wolverines and batted a .303 average in his rookie season. For fifteen seasons, he played with the Detroit Wolverines (1885-88), Philidalphia Phillies (1889-98) and Detroit Tigers in 1906. He was three times the National League hits leader, batting champion in 1887, ending his career with 1988 hits, 1262 runs scored, 129 homeruns, 1305 runs batted in and a .331 batting average. He died at his home in Detroit, Michigan, on November 7, 1922 after suffering a pair of heart attack l. He was posthumolousy inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.
