Moses Taylor Pyne (1855-1921) was a financier and philanthropist.

Obituary:
Moses Taylor Pyne. Lawyer and Financier Was Graduate and Resident of Princeton, New Jersey. Princeton, New Jersey; April 22, 1921. Moses Taylor Pyne, prominent Princeton alumnus and trustee of the University, died at his home in New York today of pneumonia, according to word received here. Mr. Pyne was born here [sic] in 1855. He graduated from Princeton in 1877, and received the degree of LL.B. at Columbia University two years later. He immediately began the practice of law. The Wall Street Journal in 1902 published a list of 72 financiers with the assertion that at least fifty of them might be considered as constituting "The business oligarchy of the United States." Mr. Pyne's name was among them. He leaves a widow and two sons. Percy R. Pyne, 2nd, and and M. Taylor Pyne, Jr. (Source: Philadelphia Inquirer on April 23, 1921) Note: The 1880 US census lists him born in New York. Birth certificates were not issued in Manhattan until 1866. His Who's Who in the World biography lists him as being born in "N.Y. City' in 1855 which would be the current borough of Manhattan.

Who's Who in the World writes in 1912: "Lawyer, born N.Y. City December, 21, 1855; son of Percy Rivington and Albertina (Taylor) Pyne. Educated Princeton Univ., B. A., M. A.; Columbia University LL. B., L.H.D. (hon.) Gen. Counsel, D. L. & W. RR. , 1880-82; since then in charge of various trusts, etc. Pres. Warren RR Co., Cayuga & Susquehanna RR. Co.; Dir. in many railways, banks, mfg. corporations. Trustee and chairman, com. on Graduate School Princeton University chm. Princeton Township; trustee, Lawrenceville School; public library commissioner, State of New Jersey. Married Margaretta Stockton of New Jersey, June 2, 1880. Address: "Drumthwacket," Princeton, N. J."
