The First Licking County native to reach the major leagues, Paul "Buck" Carpenter pitched in five games for the 1916 Pittsburgh Pirates. He began that season with Portsmouth of the Ohio State League and got his big league trial after the OSL folded. He was also briefly on the roster of John McGraw's New York Giants in 1919 but didn't appear in a regular season game.
