Ella was the oldest of seven children born to James Henry and Rosanna Matilda (Martin) Brown. She married Albert Delamere Thomas in 1869 and they were the parents of five children: Mary Matilda, Henry Webster, Edna Adeline, Charles Delmar, William Milton.

Old Resident Dies Suddenly at Home Here
Mrs. Ella M. Thomas , whose 31 years have been spent in Keokuk, dies at her home 203 North Eleventh. Today
Mrs. Ella M. Thomas a life-long resident of Keokuk died very suddenly at her home. 203 North Eleventh street at shortly after 9 o'clock this morning from a heart attack Mrs. Thomas was unusually active for a woman of her advanced age of 81 years up until the time of her death and only this morning built her own fire.
The daughter of Henry and Matilda Martin Brown, old pioneer in Keokuk on October 18, 1851. Her father was a carpenter and built many of the older houses of the city. All her long life has been spent here where she made a host of friends who will deeply regret her passing.
On November 4, 1869 she was united in marriage with Albert Delmar Thomas, who preceded her in death ten years ago. Five children were born to this union, two of whom preceded her in death.
She was a very active member of the Congregational church and an active worker in eastern Star and Women's Relief Corps. For 25 years she served as treasurer of the former lodge.
Surviving are three children, Henry Webster Milton Thomas and William Milton Thomas, both of Keokuk, and Mrs. W. J. Harter of Iowa City. There are also eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two half-sisters and a half-brother.
The funeral services will be held from the Congregational church at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
