Reginald Eugene Huffman, 76, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord, Thursday March 30, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born December 28, 1923 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Charles Melvin and Lillian Mae Dresbach Huffman. He retired in 1983 as kiln fireman from Harbison-Walker Refractories after 38 years of service. He was a well known painting contractor and was an Electrolux sales representative for 26 years. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene, serving many years as a Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and church board member.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II, serving in Company A of the 394th regiment of the 99th Infantry Division. He earned the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, along with two Bronze Stars.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dora Mae Orth Huffman, whom he married November 16, 1943, in Portsmouth; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee and Linda Lee Bloomfield Huffman of Franklin Furnace and David Eugene and Janet Maxine Baumann Huffman of Portsmouth; daughter and son-in-law Deborah Sue Huffman and Don E. Mersiel of Wheelersburg; daughter Linda Kay Huffman and her fiance Daniel Joseph Powell of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee and Melissa Sue Carver Huffman of Franklin Furnace, Emanuel Ray and Amy Louise Huffman Kuhn of Lucasville, Benjamin Huffman Colburn of Wheelersburg and Joshua David and Justin Taylor Huffman of Portsmouth; two great-grandchildren; Madison Nichole Kuhn of Lucasville and Zachary Lee Huffman of Franklin Furnace; three brothers, Milton and Clyde Huffman both of Portsmouth, and Charles Huffman of Springfield; two sisters, Miriam Huffman of Portsmouth and Joyce Rickman of Sumter, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Roberta Elizabeth Huffman in 1921 and one brother Orin Huffman in 1987.

A celebration of his life was held at 10 am Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with the Rev. James Patrick officiating, and interment in Memorial Burial Park, with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post American Legion.
