Doris is my maternal grandmother. Though she was like a mother to me. She was full-blooded Italian and one of 17 children. The mother of 4 beautiful daughters. She was a hard working waitress for over 50 years. She was also a breast cancer survivor, only to be taken by cancer at the age of 81. Doris was the most beautiful person inside and out. She left the essence of grace, kindness, love, integrity, laughter, tenderness, compassion, dignity, faith, hope, inspiration, and selfless giving that will not be forgotten by many. Her greatest passions were The Lord, she had prayers that she read EVERY morning, and her family. She also LOVED ballroom dancing, at which she was very graceful. Boy could she dance! And she went as often as she could, 2 to 3 times a week. There she met her second husband, Frank, a wonderful man. You could tell that they really loved each other. It was amazing. They married when she was 77 years old and I proudly, was her Maid Of Honor. She walked at least 1 mile a day, until she got sick.

She always had family or friends at her home. You could always bet that you would get fed when you got there. My grandmother was a wonderful cook. Her most famous dish was her spaghetti. She made it with Lamb and meatballs, and the whole neighborhood came to eat it! She was also a great baker. She made wonderful pies, jellies, cookies and goodies every year and mailed them around the country to the family, especially for the holidays. I remember picking pomegranetes and she took them home and she made jelly and mailed me my very own jar. She always made people feel so special. And when you were in her home she made you feel so comfortable, as if you were in your own. I'm sure Heaven isn't much different than her home here on earth.

I remember after my grandfather passed away and my gramma came back to California to live with my parents and I. We had a small 2 bedroom apartment and there was never a question as to where she would stay. With me!! We shared my room. We had great times watching The Golden Girls, laughing so hard our stomachs hurt and tears would stream down our faces! :0 My mom would come to check on us once in a while.... with all the laughter, you'd have thought it was two teenagers! I remember watching a movie with her where they wer having a pie fight, and she and I laughed so hard I could hardly breath. We both had to rest after that. She had such a great laugh. I would go to play cards with friends and she'd ask me where I was going and I'd tell her and she would want to go. I said "But Gram, were going to listen to Motley Crue, it's rock n' roll" She would say "That's ok" and come along, and there we would be, playing cards and listening to rock n' roll with my gramma. We would go for walks, go shopping, or just talk ourselves to sleep. I felt so connected to her that if she cried, I cried. If she laughed, I laughed. Even if I had no idea why.... She's the best friend I've ever had.

She never thought of herself, but only others. A mother of four. A grandmother and aunt of many. She touched so many lives with her beautiful smile, infectious laughter, unending kindness and love. All the hearts that she touched will never forget her, for she is unforgetable and irreplaceable.

"To live in the hearts you leave behind, is truly not to die"
"It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you HOME."
"Precious Lord, take my hand"

When I'm gone, release me, let me go;
I have so many things to see and do.
Don't tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you love.
You can only guess how much that
You gave me in happiness.
I thank you for your love you each have shown.
But it is time I travel alone.
So grieve a while for me, grieve you must;
Then let your grief be comfort by trust.
It's only for a little while we must part.
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I'll come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near.
If you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and a
"Welcome HOME!"

I miss my friend every minute of every day.
