William Hannon, Jr., second pastor of the Wolfe Creek Baptist Church for 13 years. He was born in 1773 in Tyron County, the present day Polk County, and was orphaned at about two years of age. His Father(William Hannon, SR) and several of his family members were attacked by Cherokee Indians and killed. William, his brother Edwin and his sister Winifred escaped and made their way down the North Pacolet River to the home of Col. John Earle, the younger brother of Baylis Earle. John Earle and his wife adopted the three children.John Earle's wife was Thomasine Prince, who was the sister of Sarah Prince who we believe was the mother of William Hannon, Jr., and his siblings.

His first wife was Elizabeth Earle Briggs (1771-1802) who he married 2 Mar 1797. It is not know where Elizabeth is buried, but many surmise that she may be buried in Wolfe Creek as well, though it cannot be verified.

The graves of Rev. William Hannon, Jr and his wife Phoebe do not have markers, as told to me by the present day Landrum Baptist Church.
