Alfred Thomas Kirby is my Maternal 2nd Great GrandFather.

Father: George Thomas Kirby born 1849 died 1890 in 2 Holland Road.

Mother: Mary Jane Castle born 1849 died 1902 in 10 Trinity Road.

Born at 6 Stewarts Lane, Battersea. (GRO has surname as Kerby) He is one of 8 Children.

Currently researching for the 1871 UK Census - Unable to find him, as yet.

1881 Census: Living at 36 Sydney Road, Battersea. With parents and 3 younger sibling. Alf is at school.

Alfred married Elizabeth Stroud on the 17th March 1889 at Saint Luke's Church, Woodside, Croydon.

Father of six sons. His occupation was a Builders Labourer.

In the 1891 UK Census his occupation was a brick makers labourer. Living at 45 Harrington Road, Croydon, Surrey, with wife and Little Alfred.

1901 Census: Living at 14 Wortley Road, Croydon, Surrey, with wife Elizabeth and 3 sons. Occupation: General Labourer.

1911 Census: 85 Spa Rd Thornton Heath. Married 22 years with 6 children. Occupation: Labourer. 4 sons living at home.

On March 16th, 1938, a day before his and Elizabeth's 49th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth took her own life by inhaling in carbon monoxide gas at their home 55A Gillett Road. Elizabeth left a note and called Alf her rock.

In the 1939 register, Alf is a widow - Living with Son William Harold Kirby and his wife Dorothy at County Road, Croydon, Surrey. Occupation: General Builders Labourer (Retired)

Passed away from Uremia and Apoplexy (Stroke) aged 83 at Nelson Hospital Merton, Surrey.

Alf was buried with his wife at Queen's Road Cemetery on the 20th of March 1952.
