Aiken, SC - Charles Olin Grice, age 63, died Thursday evening at Pruitt Healthcare in Aiken. Charles was born November 11, 1951, in the old Aiken hospital to Kathryn Arthur Grice and the late Olin George Grice. In accordance with his wishes, Charles' body has been donated to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. There will be a memorial for him later this summer.
While the University of South Carolina Aiken was still at the Banksia location, Charles attended classes there, received his associate's degree, and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at the University of South Carolina. He began a long career in newspaper advertising, specifically the Aiken Standard. In the early 1980s, he returned to school and completed a business degree and opened a tax practice he ran for decades, even through this tax season. He knew IRS code like no other, and retained information about clients' returns even after a number of years.Charles was a loyal Gamecock fan and supported the team through good years and bad. He dearly loved his daughter and grandchildren and liked nothing more than to spend time with them. His favorite place in the world was Brevard, NC and had many stories to tell of the days he worked at Camp Greenville and formed lasting friendships with Daniel Tollison, Robert Bannister and Larry McAdams. Ravencliff Falls, Pretty Place and Dupont State Forest were some of his favorite places.
Charles is survived by his widow: Vivian D. Grice; daughter: Kate Grice Hough of Graniteville; his much beloved grandchildren: Zoe and Ben Hough of Aiken and Graniteville; his mother; three brothers: Eddie, Russell and Steve; one sister: Jill Atkinson; and by Brad Hough and Josh Kluthe; and a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins made up an extended family.
