John Andrew, a lifetime Sapulpa resident, graduated Sapulpa High School in 1943 and soon after was working as dispatcher for the Highway Patrol Department in Claremore Oklahoma. He remained there until 1945, after realizing that he and Louise missed their friends and family in Sapulpa. He was then employed at Douglas Aircraft and remained there until 1969 until the temporary closing of the Tulsa facility. He then returned to the work he loved after being accepted to the Sapulpa Police Department as lead dispatcher and remained there until retirement in June of 1987, all the while also doing private security work for Wal-Mart. He has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career in law enforcement and also had the privilege of serving as part of the "original" Emergency Management Service (known then as Civil Defense) in Sapulpa for over 35 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #94 and was a founding member of the Sapulpa CB Radio club. He enjoyed being with his family, camping and fishing (especially after retirement), baseball and was also a huge fan and collector of old western movies. John was a solid support and anchor for his family throughout his and Louise life together, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him and working beside him. Services will be held in the Chapel at South Heights Cemetery Wednesday October 12, 2011 at 11am. Services will be performed by the Reverend Glen Hood. John Andrew was of the Baptist faith. Interment to follow at South Heights Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Sapulpa, OK.
