Three MPs Killed In Jeep Identified
STUTTGART, Germany, July 28 (UP)-Three American military policemen were killed shortly before midnight last night when their jeep skidded off a wet highway during a thunder storm.
The MP's were on the way from their Burgholzhof base in Stuttgart to suburban Boeblingen when they were caught in a cloudburst.
The jeep skidded as it was going down a slope and careened off the road, overturned and burst into flames, German police said.
Two of the men were trapped under the vehicle, the third escaped with his uniform on fire. A passing truck driver helped put out the flames, but the soldier died shortly afterward of burns.
Police and ambulances rushed to the scene, but were too late to save the men, whose names were not disclosed, pending notification of kin. They were members of the 385th MP Bn.

Three MPs Killed in Jeep Identified
Heidelberg, July 30 (Special)
AUAREUR Hq. Today identified the three soldiers of the 385th MP Bn fatally injured when their jeep skidded off a hilly road, overturned and caught fire late Friday night at Stuttgart.
They were:
Pfc Leo R. Kiker, 22, of Morningside, MD.
Sp3 Willie L. Green, 27, of Alabama
Sp3 Clyde E. Burnett, 20, of Ottawa, Kan.

I was stationed there in 1980 as a MP with the 300th MP Co., 385th MP Bn and know the place very well. Below are my thoughts on the accident:

The jeep was leaving Robinson Barracks (RB) and headed out to Panzer Ksrn. So as far as a "hilly area" I can think of one going down the hill from the RB on Auerbach Strasse to "Machs Nichts" intersection (B-295, B-27, B-10) and then there is going up Dagerloch Hill, if they took that route, but I don't know any other "hilly area" past those two.
It seems they must have had the top cover and the doors on the Jeep and got trapped when it overturned instead of being thrown from the vehicle. It's not like they had seat belts and without the doors and top cover I would see them being ejected esp. from the back seat.

Sp3 Burnett was in B company, 385 Military Police Bn.

( I have not located him yet but being an MP with the other two, my guess is he was in the same company. There were three letter companies there at that time A, B, & C - all of the 385th MP Bn.)
