Actress. Born in Richmond, Virginia she was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She began her career as a model, billed as "the girl with the perfect legs." A Hollywood audition naturally followed. She made her uncredited debut in 'The Lamb' (1915), and in 1916 she began appearing as one of Mack Sennett's Bathing Beauties in his Keystone studio comedy shorts. She was first cast by Cecil B. DeMille in 'The Woman God Forgot' (1917). She was thereafter featured in supporting roles in numerous De Mille's films, including 'The Whispering Chorus,' 'Old Wives for New,' 'The Squaw Man' 'Till I Come Back to You' (all 1918), 'The Ten Commandments' (1923), 'The Volga Boatman' (1926), and the 'King of Kings' (1927). She originated the role of Velma on screen in the 1927 adaptation of the play 'Chicago.' She made her speaking role debut in DeMille's 'Dynamite' (1929), she then appeared in the comedy 'Not so Dumb' (1930) and a remake of 'The Squaw Man' (1931). From that point her career faded rapidly. Numerous bit parts followed in such features as 'Union Pacific' (1939), 'Northwest Mounted Police' (1940), 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court' (1950), and 'The Ten Commandments' (1958), but her characters were often either unnamed or her appearance uncredited. Her last film role was in 1958's 'The Buccaneer.' She emerged from retirement only once, to appear in an episode of the television series 'Perry Mason' in 1963, 'The Case of the Reluctant Model.' She had made an effort at composing a memoir during the 1940s, but it remained unpublished. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6501 Hollywood Blvd.
