Gerald was living with his parents when he enlisted in the Marines 1 August 1968, at a Baltimore Recruiting Office.
When Gerald arrived in Vietnam 22 January 1969, he was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.
Alpha Company was conducting a search and clear operation ,3 kilometers west northwest of the Liberty Bridge when the Marines engaged hostile forces. Gerald died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head and body from hostile small arms fire. The Marines lost a total of 4 men.
Survived by his parents, John E and Leota V Call, his 2 brothers; John Ronnie and
Richard and 4 sisters; Joyce, Jeanne, Ruth and Lynn Call all of Route #1, Box 125, Sterney Road, Aberdeen, MD.
