According to the 1870 Federal Census he was living in Green Valley in Solano County, California when he was 19 years old, working as a farm laborer on his family's farm. He married Eliza Josephine "Josie" Jepson, the daughter of William Lemmon Jepson and Martha Ann Potts Jepson on June 12, 1887 in Vacaville CA. Moses and Josephine lived in Northern California, in Mendocino Township in 1900 (then Sonoma County), in Vacaville (Solano County) in 1910, and in Oakland (Alameda County) in 1920.
Moses and Josephine had several children: Carl (b. July 5, 1889), Frances Ethel (b. Aug. 20, 1890 at Healdsburg, CA), Anita Grace (b. May 30, 1892 at Healdsburg, CA), Lenore Helen (b. Oct. 28 1893 at Healdsburg, CA), and Willis Edward (b. July, 1896 at Healdsburg; d. Mar. 4, 1917 at Colfax, CA), and Martha Gladys (b. Sept. 17, 1900 at Healdsburg, CA).
The census records over time show that Moses always lived in large households, I imagine they were large, warm, noisy households filled with the sounds of children laughing and playing. I was sad to discover in the 1920 census that he was living as a boarder in the King's Daughters Home for Incurables at 38th and Broadway in Oakland. He was actually counted twice in that census, both as a boarder in the home for the infirm and as a resident with his wife and family. Moses died that same year.
