French nobleman and admiral, Huguenot leader in the French Wars of Religion. An attempt at his live was made a two days before his death. During the St Bartholomew Days massacre a group, led by the Duc de Guise entered his house and killed him. He was decapitated and his body hanged at Montfaucon. Three days later he was buried at Chantilly. In 1599, he was rehabilitated and buried in his family grave at Châtillon.
