Born in Hamburg, Germany, as the son of Egmont von Ardenne and his wife Adela Mutzenbecher, and grandson of Elisabeth von Ardenne. He demonstrated a keen interest in science from a young age. He earned his doctorate in physics at the age of 21 and went on to establish himself as a prominent figure in scientific research and innovation. Von Ardenne made significant advancements in electron microscopy, developing one of the first electron microscopes in 1931.
