Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Burton Bloms officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Backes was born Dec. 13, 1890, in Farming to the late Peter and Mary Backes. He married Theresa Pallansch Aug. 21, 1951, in Richmond. He farmed in the St. Nicholas area until he retired and moved to Richmond where he was employed as a mail carrier prior to his second retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph's Society.
Survivors include his wife and daughter, Mrs. John (Margaret) Thelen, Brainerd; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose (Ramler) in 1946 and eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Louis, Harold and Ambrose Backes, Al Ramler, Alex Pallansch Jr. and Melvin Krueger.
