Served the Confederate States of America under General John Hunt Morgan of Morgan's Raiders during the War Between the States. He was "banished from Kentucky by Federal Officers and went to Mexico." A later US Army Record of Enlistments indicates that Cadmus enlisted in the US Army at age 29 on 22 July 1875 in Cincinnati, Ohio for a period of five years. Died as a Private First Class of remittent fever (believed to be yellow fever) at Brownsville, Texas as a Private First Class in Dec 1877. Married Mary Anne Scantland 6 March 1873 in Franklin County, Kentucky; one daughter, Katherine (born January 10, 1874).
