Major League Baseball Player. Born in Roulette, Pennsylvania, he was a third baseman making his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 18, 1954. For eleven seasons, he played with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1954-55), Chicago Cubs (1956), Cincinnati Reds (1957-58), Pittsburgh Pirates (1959-62) and Philadelphia Phillies (1963-64). He was an All-Star in 1957, plus a member of the World Series Champion Brooklyn Dodgers (1955) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1960). He concluded his career with 1144 hits, 598 runs scored, 89 home runs, 498 runs batted in and a .265 batting average. After his playing career, he was a Pirates' radio broadcaster for two years, a coach for the Phillies in 1967 and a manager in the Pirates' minor leagues farm system (1968-69). He died of a heart attack at age 41 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
