United States Marine Corps Private First Class Aasheim was killed in the Battle of Peleliu. He was a machine engineer in the special weapons battalion of the First Marines, Company A, 1st Battalion.

Raymond was born on a farm near McCallsburg, on December 10, 1923. He moved with his parents to a farm five miles northwest of Roland, and attended Roland high school graduating with the class of 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on December 7, 1942, receiving his training at the Marine Corps station at San Diego, Calif.
He was sent overseas in June of 1943, and was in combat at Cape Gloucester in the New Britain islands and from there to the Palau group.
Raymond is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aasheim, two sisters, Helen and Astrid, and three brothers, Sherman, Harlan and Leslie.

Raymond's remains were returned from Manila, P.I., where he had been interred and arrived accompanied by an honorary guard for burial in 1950.
Memorial services were held at the Bethany Lutheran church in McCallsburg on Sunday, Dec. 3rd, with Rev. H.N. Bakke in charge assisted by the Samuel Reid Post of the American Legion. Burial was made in the McCallsburg cemetery.
