Charles C. Coop was born 08 Mar 1847, in Pennsyvannia. We believe he came west prior to 1870 with his mother, step-father, and half siblings to Storey County, where there were gold fields in Nevada. Soon, he headed for California and this is where he met and married his first wife, Lydia B. Hinkley. They married 26 Nov 1872 in Hollister, Monterey County, California. Charles and Lydia had six children in eight years. She died a few days after giving birth to their last child, Edmund Coop somewhere around Goldendale, Washington. She died 08 Mar 1883. Charles soon married Irene Phebe Hall, an older sister to two of his daughter-in-laws Mary Hall and Effie Hall. Charles and Phebe as she was known, had nine children together. And they were married, abt. 1883. Charles took various jobs. At age 31 he was a teamster. Later he became a Circuit Rider for the Methodist Church. He served as a circuit "preacher" in Southern Washington and later, all over Oregon. He was however, never an ordained pastor, he was a 'supply' pastor. When he started his career as a pastor he started out at the Klamath Indian Agency (Reservation) and then went back north to Viola, and other point up in Nothern Oregon. Later, while in Southern Oregon he preached in Canyonville (Douglas County), Wolf Creek (Douglas County), Bonanza (Klamath County), Elkton, Gardiner and probably several points between. The last few years of his life, he lived near his son and his family, and near the church where he preached in Canyonville, Douglas County, Oregon. He died October 1st, and was interred on October 4th in Brush Prarie, Clark County, Washington beside his wife, Irene Phebe Hall.
