Army Spc Anguiano was assigned to 3rd Combat Support Battalion, Fort Stewart, Georgia. His remains were recovered on April 24 near Nasiriyah. On March 23, 2003, he was in a six-vehicle convoy on Highway 7 when enemy forces ambushed them. Edward graduated in 1998 from Hanna High School in Brownsville, Texas where he played football and belonged to the Reserve Officers Training Corps. After working in Arkansas and attending community college for three semesters, he enlisted in the United States Army in August of 2000 with dreams of obtaining a better job and a college education. "What we heard is that he was ambushed," said Vicente Anguiano Sr., the slain man's grandfather. "They found his truck, the one he drove, and it had been stripped – tires and everything." Edward was a bit of a loner, but leaving the small town of Los Fresnos brought out the best in him. At his graveside service, friends and teachers remembered Anguiano as polite, soft-spoken and always willing to help.
