George Washington Pool, Son of Ira Pool and Margaret Mitchell. A veteran of the Civil War, George served in Cos. D & G, 49th Reg., Ohio Inf. and reached the rank of Captain.

Enlisted as a Sergeant with Company G, 49th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 18, 1861. Promoted to First Sergeant on October 21, 1862. Promoted to First Lieutenant on June 23, 1863. Wounded during the Battle of Chickamauga, GA on September 19, 1863. Transferred to Company C on March 1, 1864. Promoted to Captain and transferred to Company D on August 11, 1864. Wounded during the Battle of Nashville, TN on December 18, 1864. Mustered out on November 30, 1865.
