RANDALL J. HATFIELD
---Navy Lt. Comdr. Randall James Hatfield, 38, of Chesapeake, Va., a native of LaPlata, died July 6, 1985 in Bethesda, Md., after an illness of six weeks, and was retired (early) before his death.
---Lt. Comdr. Hatfield was serving on the staff of Commander Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. He was a member of the Aviation Boatswain's Mate Association.
---Survivors include his wife, Merle White Hatfield; two daughters, Rhonda Opie and Randi Lynn Hatfield and two sons, Scott Opie and Aaron James Hatfield, all of Chesapeake; his mother, Margie Miller Hatfield Warren of LaPlata; his step-father, Ralph Warren and step-mother, Jeanette Warren of DeWitt, Ark.; a sister, Marla Warren Murphy and a niece, Marsha Murphy of Kirksville, and his maternal grandmother, Edna Miller of LaPlata.
---Services were conducted by Navy Chaplain E.B. Ferguson at 2 p.m. Wednesday (July 10, 1985) at Twinford Colonial Chapel in Chesapeake.
---Burial was in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens after full Military Honors were conducted with an Honor Guard of 30 men from the U.S.S. Kennedy, a 21-Gun Salute-Taps and the folded flag presented to his wife.
---His mother was unable to attend but Ralph and Jeannette Warren left Monday, July 8 to attend and returned to DeWitt on Saturday, July 13. Mr. Warren raised him since he was five with a brother, Ronnie, who was four.
---Ronnie, who was also a Navy veteran, preceded his brother in death.
