Maria entered the South Los Angeles Animal Care Center on May 29, 2008. She was suffering from treatable mange. New Dawn Pet Rescue made a valiant fundraising and rescue effort, but unfortunately, the rescuer called the shelter a day too late. She called only to be told that Maria had been euthanized that morning. Maria was put on the euthanasia list on June 3, 2008, and she was euthanized June 13, 2008, aged 6 months.
