Well traveled US Army veteran of World War II

Wilson D. Booth, 73, of Arkport R.D. 1, died early Wednesday (April 29, 1992) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell following a short illness.

Mr. Booth was born in Coudersport, PA on March 24, 1919, the son of Theron and Emma Smith Booth. He was married in 1944 to the former Mary Bullock, who died in 1991.

He had resided in the Hornell area for most of his adult life.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in Rhineland, Central Europe, Algeria-French Morocco, Normandy, Northern France, Sicily, Tunisia and Okinawa.

He was employed as a tool foreman for more than 25 years at the Foster Wheeler Corp. in Dansville retiring in 1984.

He served as a steward in the Machinist Union, AFL-CIO. He was a member and treasurer of the Arkport American Legion, a member of the Hornell Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Foster Wheeler 25-year club.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Tenkler and Betty Sanford, both of Hornell; three sons, Michael Booth of Prattsburg, William of Wayland, and James of Alabama; one brother, James Booth of North Carolina; a sister, Manie Johnson of Wolcott; eight grand-children; several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by the Dagon Funeral Home in Hornell. A service was Saturday. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Fremont. (Genesee County Express, May 7, 1992, p4)
