Enlisted on 7/23/1861 at Manassas, VA., he was mustered into 1st Company, Rockbridge Virginia Light Artillery as a Private.
Present on all rolls until Killed In Action in 1st Battle of Winchester, VA.
On 10/6/1862, his father, John Agner, filed a Settlement Claim; he was found due $126.50.

The Rockbridge Light Artillery No. 1 was organized by W.N. Pendleton, rector of Grace Church in Lexington, Virginia, in May, 1861. Its members were recruited in Rockbridge County.
