Enlisted on 8/15/1862 at Iredell County, NC., he was mustered into "I" Co. NC 37th Infantry as a Private.
Mortally wounded 5/3/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.

The 37th Infantry Regiment, organized by Colonel C.C. Lee, was assembled at High Point, North Carolina, in November, 1861. The men were raised in the counties of Buncombe, Watauga, Mecklenburg, Wake, Ashe, Alexander, and Gaston.
This regiment reported 235 casualties at Chancellorsville.
