Fosston - Gene Olson, 56, died Sunday, May 21, 2000 at his home in Rosebud township near Fosston.

Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Steven Weston officiating. Interment will be in the Kingo Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, May 24) from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston.

Gene Allen Olson was born on October 19, 1943 in Fosston, the son of Emil and Clara (Tollefson) Olson. He was raised near Fosston, attended Pine Hill Country School and graduated from Fosston High School in 1961. Following high school, he worked construction for Landsiedl Construction Co. of Glyndon, working on projects around Minnesota until 1974.

Gene was united in marriage to Elaine Susan Berberich on April 20, 1974 in Brooks. The couple resided in Rosebud township near Fosston where Gene farmed most of his life. He worked for the Fosston School District until 1992, for the Clearwater County Highway Department from 1994 until 1995 and was currently employed by the Oklee School District.

He was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston and enjoyed the outdoors, especially farming and hunting.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sue; one son, Eric of Fosston; five brothers, Emery of Pembine, Wisc., Richard (Myrna) of Thief River Falls, Gary (Mary Jo) of Chanhassen, Robert (Karen) of McIntosh and David (Ruth) of Fosston; three sisters, +Patricia (Mike) Lynch of Minnetonka, Corrine Varholdt of Hopkins and Victoria (Alvin) Olson of Fosston; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Tim.
