Jack B. Sparks, 79, of Wheelersburg, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Jack was born June 4, 1930, in South Webster, a son of the late William and Mary Porter Sparks, and stepmother, Virtie Davis Sparks. Jack was a Marine Corps veteran who served his country during the Korean War. Jack loved the outdoors where he was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as an accomplished archer, winning several state and national titles. He was a founding member of the Silver Eagles Archery Club and also a member of the Lone Eagles Archery Club. He was a 1950 graduate of South Webster High School and during his career he was employed at Goodyear Atomic Corporation, Empire Detroit Steel and was retired from S.O.C.F.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Orth Sparks; one son, Mark Sparks and his wife Ellie and two loving granddaughters, Hannah and Hayley, all of Russell, Ky.; one sister, Mona Holcom and husband JL of Franklin Furnace; one brother, Daniel Sparks and wife Catherine of Galion, Ohio; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Bill and Charles Sparks; and one sister, Marjorie Sparks McCarty.

He was loved by many and will sadly be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Michael Wright officiating, with interment at Memorial Burial Park. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the services.
