World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, 22nd Cheshire Regiment. On September 25, 1916, during the Battle of Morval, France Private Jones was with his company covering the advance in front of a village. When he noticed a German sniper 200 yards away, he went out alone being fired a pone, returned fire and killed him. He then saw two more Germans firing on him and shot they as well. On reaching the enemy trench he single-handed disarmed 102 of the enemy, including four officers and took them prisoner. For extreme gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
