Hall of Fame Baseball Player. He was one of the biggest draws in the Negro Leagues and considered one of the most prodigious power hitters in the history of professional baseball. As a catcher, he played for the Pittsburgh Crawfords, 1927 to 1929, 1932 to 1936 and for the Homestead Grays, 1930, 1931, 1937 to 1946. He led the Negro National League in home runs for 10 consecutive seasons and was credited with 75 homers in 1931. He also hit 800 home runs in league and independent baseball during his 17-year career and was National Negro League batting champion in 1936, 1938, 1942, and 1945. In 1972, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His son Josh Gibson Jr. also played in the Negro Leagues as a third baseman for the Homestead Grays, 1949 to 1950.
